July 3rd bonfires have been around New England since before the declaration of our independence. It was a time for pyre and illumination to celebrate.
This tradition is still alive and well in the quaint town of Ashby Massachusetts. People from all around the area come to enjoy a piece of yesteryear and relive their childhood memories and create new memories for younger generations.
Bring a chair and buy some dinner or dessert from one of the local vendors. The fire gets lit after dark.
–Can you bring dogs?
Yes, but they should be friendly and they need to stay leashed and you must pick up after them.
-What time does the fire start?
It gets lit after dark.
-Who lights it?
The Ashby Fire Department supervises the light directly and the people who light it get picked from a raffle.
-Can we bring a cooler?
Sure you can and we encourage the public to bring plenty of non-alcoholic beverages to stay hydrated.
-How much is it to get in?
There is no charge to walk in the gates. This event takes a good part of the year to plan, staff, and coordinate by many volunteers from the Ashby Fire & EMS Department along with other town volunteers. We always encourage a donation to our Non-Profit Ashby Fire & EMS Association!
-How do I get more information on being a vendor or sponsor?
